Dr. Greg Emery and Students from the Global Leadership Center at Ohio University

The Pluralism Project at Ohio University

Project Description

Greg Emery is the Director and a Faculty Member of the Global Leadership Center at Ohio University. He obtained his Ph.D. in the Philosophy of Religion from Temple University (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA). He spent 1988-89 doing dissertation research on Hermeneutics and Existential Theology at the Universitaet Hamburg (Germany) as a Fulbright Scholar. He also holds a Master of Business Administration degree with a concentration in Finance.

The Global Leadership Center at Ohio University is a two-year undergraduate certificate program that prepares students to serve as internationally-minded, skilled, and experienced leaders in all walks of life. (www.ohio.edu/glc) Students in the Global Leadership Center study and work, in teams (comprised of both Ohio University and, at times, foreign-based international students), on real-world projects and problems, usually with real-world clients (both in the USA and abroad).

The Global Leadership Center's initial work for the Pluralism Project documents and explores the New Vrindaban (Hare Krishna) community in nearby Moundsville, West Virginia (approximately 150 miles from Ohio University). New Vrindaban has an exciting - if turbulent - history, a continually shifting demographic base, and a unique role in American history. (www.newvrindaban.com, www2.hanover.edu/newvrindavan)

In the future, the GLC will widen the scope of its investigations for the Pluralism Project by investigating other Asian and Middle Eastern communities in the areas surrounding Southeast Ohio.
