Mapping South Asian Religious Communities in New Orleans

Project Description

Arthi Devarajan will be mapping the numerous religious centers of the South Asian community in Louisiana. A native of New Orleans, Arthi will be creating specific profiles for Hindu and Jain temples, mosques, and Sikh gurdwaras throughout the state. These profiles will document the history, activities and communty relations of each center as well as youth and arts programs. Arthi's research will additionally examine the South Asian community of health care professionals as a tool for understanding how Louisianna's South Asians weave their responsibilities and place in American society at large with conscientious attention to the preservation of their religious and cultural traditions.
