Mapping Religious Diversity in Montana

Project Description

Scott Hyslop will be mapping religious diversity in Montana throughout the summer months of 2003.  He hopes to accomplish an initial overview of the "new religious climate" of the state.  In major towns such as Missoula, Kalispell, Greatfalls, Helena, Butte, Bozeman and Billings, the presence and interaction among the diverse religious communities will be acknowledged and recorded. He will examine the growing Buddhist population in Missoula and Bozeman, noting the inter-sangha and interfaith work done in correspondence to the peace movement after September 11 and prior to the Iraq war. He also hopes to acknowledge the presence of religious communities in rural areas of Montana such as the Amish, Hutterites, Mennonites, and the Apostolic United Brethren. The very rich religious dynamic on the reservations of Montana will also be represented.
