Mapping in Missouri - St. Louis and Kansas City

Milia Islam will be mapping the various Islamic centers in the Kansas City and St. Louis areas of Missouri during the Summer of 2002. Milia will research several centers, documenting their history, demographics, and community relations. Her research will also address the difficulties faced by the Sikh community of Missouri since the September 11 terror attacks on America, and the relationship between the Muslim and Sikh communities. This aspect of her research will involve work with the interfaith organizations of Missouri.

As a Muslim woman, Milia is also greatly interested in documenting women's networks and activities at Islamic centers and mosques. She will explore the stereotypes faced by Muslim women in their Missouri communities, with a special focus on younger women growing up in America.
