Interfaith Youth Service
Project Description
The Interfaith Youth Core is a Chicago-based national grassroots movement bringing together religiously diverse young people to serve their communities. It is one of the only interfaith organizations focusing specifically on the role of young people. IFYC sees service as a shared value among all religious traditions and thus an effective catalyst for bringing together religiously diverse young people. The three components of their work are strengthening religious identity, sharing with others, and serving. Using Chicago as their pilot city, IFYC is strengthening its programs and then rolling them out nationally, particularly through their National Day of Interfaith Service. This research will go into further detail about IFYC's methodology for service learning and how service and reflection combine to become a unique avenue into interfaith interactions. It will also detail the programs and impact of IFYC and local organizations across the nation who are putting IFYC's methodology into practice in their communities.
Dr. Diana Eck is the faculty sponsor for this research.
