Ambassador Menzies was a friend of Kosova and a fine scholar and diplomat

Kosova lost another great friend today, Ambassador John Menzies.

He became the first chief of US Mission in Kosova after the liberation in 1999. That was a period full of challenges. The United States didn’t have an embassy yet and the work that Ambassador Menzies did was fundamental.

In 2006, he returned to Kosova to help the preparations for the status negotiation with Serbia. Ambassador Menzies was a strong supporter of Kosova’s independence.

As a diplomat and a human being, he was passioned for Kosova and democracy. As a university dean, he helped many Albanian students study and graduate in the United States.

I express my deepest condolences to his family!

May he rest in peace!
