Louisville

Louisville, of “Louisville Slugger” baseball bat and Kentucky Derby fame, is located along the banks of the Ohio River, just inside the Kentucky state line. In addition to supporting the nation’s largest urban municipal forest, the “City of Possibility” is home to the Muhammad Ali Center, an interactive learning venue that commemorates the three-time heavyweight boxing champion’s ongoing commitment to promoting integrity, tolerance, and understanding. Louis Brandeis, the first Jewish person to be nominated as a Supreme Court Justice, is another famous Louisville son.

Louisville, a city with around 256,000 residents, has been an energetic locus for interfaith engagement since the Festival of Faiths was founded in the mid-1980s. This model has been replicated around the nation. Louisville’s interfaith infrastructure engages issues of justice on a regular basis, offering support to individuals living with HIV/AIDS and bringing diverse groups together to build a Habitat for Humanity house.
