3.      Soldiers Bathing:

In late May 1864, O’Sullivan’s lens found dusty, sweat-soaked Union soldiers enjoying a refreshing swim in Virginia’s North Anna River. The bucolic respite was hard earned, coming after bitter fighting in which 1,973 of their comrades were killed or wounded.  Library of Congress
