Monday through Thursday the Masjid (Mosque) is open daily for individual or group worship (salat). Jumua Salat (congregrational prayer) is on Friday and Zuhr Prayers (salat) take place on Sunday at noon. The Masjid celebrates Eid al-Fitr, Eid al-Adha and other religious observances. There are also meetings of the Council of Elders, Board of Trustees, Executive Committee of the Islamic Center of Cleveland, as well as potluck dinners, picnics, lectures (in English) and interfaith programs. There are Saturday and Sunday schools for children and the publishing of a newsletter is currently in process.History
The group originally met at 9400 Detroit Avenue, Cleveland. The founders were the initial group of Muslim residents of Greater Cleveland. Major challenges included earlier beginnings at the Cleveland YMCA, then moving to a remodeled duplex on Detroit Avenue and the building of the new mosque (1989 - 1995) with only local funding; no outside funds were sought or acquired.Demographics
Families from the entire Cleveland area come for salat. Men, women, and children are all welcome. Special arrangement for women's prayer participation include an upstairs gallery. Otherwise, women and men are not separated. Muslims from many parts of the world are often present. The language most often heard is English, except during prayer which is in Arabic.Description
