Description

History

Before the present church was built, Greek Orthodox worshippers in the rapidly-growing east Valley community of Chandler leased a room at a local elementary school for their Sunday services. In the late 1970s a number of first, second and third generation Greek-Americans, along with an immigrant community, began to collect money for a church through donations and fund-raising activities. By 1982 the community was able to dedicate the church in its current location.

Activities and Schedule

To learn about current events, activities, and schedules, please visit the St. Katherine's Church website. The church sponsors a range of activities, including the Philiptochos society (a women's charitable organization), instruction in traditional Greek dancing, Greek language lessons, and choir. The church also organizes a major, community-wide "Food Festival" each spring that highlights Greek food and culture and raises money for the church.

Demographics

The church is a fairly even mixture of different age groups. Although Greek-Americans form the majority of worshippers, other Orthodox ethnic communities also participate.
