History

Saint Alban’s Anglican Church was founded in 1989 by Jack Swigert and now has about thirty families attending services. The members worshipped previously in the basement of a Catholic church on 75th Street in Kansas City, and they moved to their current location in 1989. The congregation was formed out of disagreements with actions and teachings of the Episcopal Church.

Demographics

Typically, the members of St. Alban’s are upper middle class, older individuals. The ethnic composition is mostly Caucasian, a few minority group members, and a few Africans. Most of the members reside outside Lenexa.

St. Alban's is part of the Diocese of the Missouri Valley of the Anglican Church in America.

Description

St. Alban’s occupies a modest-sized red brick house that has been converted into a church by the parish. It sits on 31/2 acres of well-maintained land just off of Lackman Road in Lenexa, KS. A wooden porch runs along the front of the building, and large, white double doors lead to an entrance hall. To the right of the hall is a social room. At the far end of the entryway is the kitchen and dining area. To the left of the entry hall is the sanctuary, outfitted with an organ, folding chairs, pulpit, and altar. The basement of the house is used for Sunday school, the nursery, and the library.

Activities and Schedule

Church activities include pig roasts and picnics shared with affiliated parishes, potluck dinners, an Easter egg hunt for the local community, discussion groups, and healing services. For additional activites, see the website.
