The mosque was founded by Ali Shah. The center was once a doctor's office, and the Muslims built a small room on the back of the office for them to have a service. Years later, the doctor's office relocated and the Muslims opened up a school and worship center in the building. The Muslims did not have any problems with local residents or businesses in the community. They respected the Muslims and felt that their presence would uplift the community and make it stronger.

Demographics

All age groups worship at the center. There are more men than women. Arabic and English are spoken at the mosque. The ethnic population is mostly African-American, but occasionally some Arabs show up for service. There are Arabic language classes taught on certain days every week.

Description

There are three rooms in the building. On one side of the building there is a room for woman to place their shoes, and on the other side a room for men to put their shoes. The two rooms for the men and women on the opposite sides lead to a larger main room where services take place. The center was first a doctor's office, then a doctor's office and a mosque. Later it was a mosque and school, but the school closed down six years ago due to lack of funding.
