Rhode Island's religious history begins with the Wampanoag and Narragansett peoples who were its original inhabitants. According to archaeological evidence, these people have lived in the area of present-day Rhode Island for some 10,000 years. Over the millennia, they have maintained their own spiritual beliefs and practices, and their descendants continue to practice them today.
