After the battle, the Narragansetts held their first annual powwow—a tradition they continue to the present. At the powwow, the tribal medicine man performs and leads sacred rites—such as honoring the earth and all its creatures, displaying the tribe's war bonnet, smoking the calumet, and performing drumming, songs, and dances—all elements of Narragansett native spirituality.
