"Over 1,500 Katrina Families Reunited."

Stealth

During disasters, we do what we can online to assist in reuniting animals with their families. We also help to get the word out about where you can evacuate to with your animals and we put rescuers together with supplies and those in need.

Our name reflects out desire to get the job done quietly, discreetly, and without seeking credit. Much of what we do must remain confidential as we deal with personal information and respect privacy. Sensitive situations our specialty! We are also happy to volunteer to help other groups as their volunteers and have done so. If you want to be a Stealther, join our Yahoo Group.

Stealth Volunteers started as a group of volunteers from all over the country and the world, working on the ground and online through a Yahoo Group to reunite Katrina evacuees with their pets. Our work wound down as the animals were adopted out, but those families who were never reunited will forever be in our thoughts and our hearts are filled by those we helped. Our work is locating owners, not lost pets.

The doumentary "Mine" is an incredible film about reunions that were delayed after Katrina because the foster families held onto the animals. The Stealth Volunteers worked on some of these cases and it is a film that brought up a lot of memories for us. It was surprising how emotional it was, all these years later.

Families who have lost their income, or who have had to move, are surrendering their animals. This has put a huge burdon on rescues and shelters.

There are only two no-kill shelters in the hardest hit area. Their donors have been hurt economically by the oil spill as has everyone in the region. Of course this comes at a time when their resources are more in demand than ever. People are desperate for the no-kill shelters to take their dogs and cats.

It is hard enough to give up an animal you love, but how much harder when the only place they can go is Animal Control, where there is no longer room to keep surrenders?

No-kill non-profit shelters:
Animal Rescue New Orleans (ARNO) -- Need donations to help with fostering animals while people try to recover their lives. ARNO could help 100 dogs in a matter of weeks by expanding their shelter. Angel wanted with 40K! Make an immediate impact!
