THE LEAGUE OF CHAMPIONS ~1996
by Ethan Fry

The journey started with many a team
It truly was, a splendid scheme
Kluivert's quickness, Finidi's shock
Ajax was a championship lock.

In the shadows, a challenger loomed
Would they succeed, or were they doomed?
Vialli's goals, Ferrara's defense
Could they put Ajax over the fence?

People came from miles afar
Ravenelli scored first, beating Van de Saar
Ajax then struck, before the half was done
The score remained one all, until the final gun.

Extra time passed by, with neither team beaten
Penalty kicks would seek a winner, and show the losing heathen.

Peruzzi was brilliant, stopping the first
Van de Saar was nervous, thinking the worst
Juventus seized the splendid day, scoring four goals straight
Ajax, with championship hopes, would simply have to wait.
