Anyone at Philadelphia Naval Hosp. in 1969. Do you remeber this person?
I am seeking my birthmother. Born Michael on 03/05/70 at the Naval Hospital in Philadelphia, 11:27 am. Birth mother served in the Navy and worked as a health aid in the neurological ward at the US Naval Hosp. in Philadelphia. She was originally from Indiana, a Methodist and was 21 years old in March of 1970. She is 5'6" with brown hair and brown eyes and wore glasses. During her pregnancy she worked in a photo store and shared an apartment in Phila. with two other girls. She is the eldest of five siblings including 1 full brother and 3 half-siblings. Birth father is believed to be a John A. Macleod, 23 years old in 1970, a 1st corpsman originally from Scotland, who shipped to the Mediterranean around July of 1970.

I was an OR Nurse at the 12th Evac Hospital in Cu Chi,
Vietnam in 1967. I served with many other brave women and one in particular was a close friend. Her name is Claire Schoen. We were buddies and I am trying to find her, if she wants to be found by me. I send her great love and want very much to reconnect with her. She was going to stay in touch in 1968 when I left Nam and I never heard from her. Claire if you are out there and need help, or want to talk, I am here. Call or send an email. I love you no matter what!

On April 19th of 1972 i was wounded aboard the USS Higbee, a Destroyer in the Gulf of Tonken. After a five day stay on the USS Tripoli I was evaced to the 95th EVAC at DaNang. There I was put in their orthopedic are although I also suffered 2nd and 3rd degree burns on 65% of my body.
This is where I met my Angel of Mercy. She was in the form of a Army Nurse. Captain Jones (Jonesy) was what we called her. I never did find out what her first name was. She told me to just call her Jonesy. She not only took care of my wounds, she took care me. Being a 19 year old boy away from home for the first time was bad enough, but to be there under such circumstances was overwhelming.
When I left I was able to say good bye, but I never did get to tell her Thank You and how much she meant to me. I know she did the same for many, many more boys that were scared and felt alone. But it was people like her and all the other people in all the hospitals that made it easier for us. I for one shall never forget the "ANGELS" in olive drab that cared for us. Nor shall their sacrafices be forgotten.
If any one out there knows the where abouts of Capt. Jonesy I would appreciate knowing how to get in touch with her to say thanks. I can be contactedc at: BSpr1@aol.com
I would also like to thank those responsible for this site for giving those of us who needed you a way to let you know how much it meant to us for you to be there. THANK YOU!!

My only contact with women in Vietnam was the Donut Dollies visiting Fire Support Base Kien south of Cu Chi and north of Lai Khe during the Fall of 1969 and Winter of 1970. During that time I was an Infantry Officer Advisor with the ARVN 8th Regiment of the 5th (ARVN) Division and never spoke to one of the Dollies because they were mainly visiting the men of the Black Lions of the 1st Division (Big Red One) who shared the base with our ARVN unit. But those girls were a sight for sore eyes and gave me added incentive to get back home. I loved those girls and I am sure there is a special place in heaven for them. I worked in the ER at the 71st evac with the most wonderful nurses. We recieved 1670 battle casualties from Dak To Kontum and Hue. Some nurses and OR techs Xray techs came from the 85th and 67th in Qui Nhon. When the push was over they got on a plane that flew into a mountain and all were killed. There is a book "There Were Eight of Them" about the women casualties of the VN war. I consider myself lucky beyond words to have worked with them. My hat is off and will stay off to the nurses of Pleiku. We took 14 122mm rockets in the hosp and the nurses were treating the wounded under NVA fire. These women cannot be praised enough for my thoughts. I love you all and you know who you are. Feel free to contact me. We saw lots of 4th div and 1st cav marines engineers. welcome home ALL

Dear Vets,
As a women who suffers from PTSD,I wanted to take a moment to pass some thoughts on to you and the vets you have contact with.
I just wanted to tell you all that as I sat watching the TV on Sept 11th, when I could finally talk one of the first things I said to my husband was, "I can only imagine what this must be like for a Vietnam Vet. This must be horrible for so many different reasons". And as the week went by, with all the public support for "our boys" and the media hype gearing the public up to treat them as heroes, again and again I thought of you.
To the women who served,I want you to know that you are not forgotten. Your service and sacrifice to this country is remembered and valued. And to some of us anyone who has the courage to face combat when called is a hero. Without you, the support staff and medical staff, many of the men who did make it home wouldn't have. I know I'm not the only one who feels this way either.
Sincerely,
Lorraine

I just wanted say that for both woman and men who have died or are active; I congratulate the strength they have and the power I feel when reading their stories.

My name is Nick LAMBROS and I served in the 588th combat engineer battalion in Tay Ninh. Although I never needed you're highly professional care . I had the privilege of watching the nurses at the hospital at Tay Ninh take care of a friend of mine . It was comforting to know if I did need your care I couldn't be in better hands. The words thank you are inadequate to express mine and many other GIs of appreciation.
PS if anyone could tell me the name of the unit or units at Tay Ninh between 67 through 68 I would appreciate it. Nick LAMBROS

I served with the 1st Air Cavalry as a combat infantrman '66-'67, receiving a rather serious head injury April '67 from a trip wire booby trap that detonated a grenade, that in turn detonated an artillery round...ruined my whole day. I was sent to the 8th General Field Hospital at Nha Trang for several weeks..most of that time in a coma. When stabilized I was sent to Yokohama, Japan to the 106th...my angel of mercy was nurse physical therapist Judy Blackman. Judy again restored my humanity, and helped the inner scars healing. I was in hospitals about 14 months, but Judy was my turning point between life and death. Selfless as she is, I doubt she ever realized the impact she had. I have written a poem on the web at my "Vietnam Picture Tour," dedicated to her sweet memory. “Warrior And The Nurse,”

Many thanks to all the selfless nurses and Red Cross ladies who patched us up and kept us in high spirits. Special thanks to those at 3rd Field Hospital who took care of me after I stepped on a land mine in August, 1967 and those who mended my non-combat hand laceration at 67th Evac in 1970. I owe my life since '67 to a great fearless medic, a crazy gunship crew who picked me up, and many skilled surgeons, nurses and medical staff in RVN, Japan and Ft Gordon. The Red Cross ladies were like angels to all of us and I thank every one of you. Ive used a Red Cross lady's picture as my screen-saver for the last year or so - her last name is (or was then) McClintic, I believe. Her picture reminds me of all the ladies who were there for us. And they ALL volunteered. Thank you, ladies for your dedication and sacrifice.

I come to this site about once a week. I was a physiotherapy advisor in Qui Nhon from March,70 to july,71 and again from august,72 to march,73.
We worked with Vietnamese civilians but many of our friends were from the 67th Evac.
There were also many Canadian men who joined the US military and served in VN, and either lost their lives, were physically or mentally wounded . Many of them still suffer from their wounds as do the American vets.
Many of them stopped by our compound for a Canadian beer and some friendly talk with fellow Canadians.
I just read a posting about the US government forgetting about some of you.
I just want to say that I'm in touch with a few of those Canadian vets. They've been trying for 30 years to get some acknowledgement from the US government in terms of assistance with their war-related problems and have had absolutely no help.
God bless all the vets wherever they come from.

I was stationed at the US Army Hospital, Camp Zama, Japan, 69-72. Those of you, who were at the medical units in Vietnam, I am sure, know about "Zama Hospital", as you probably "tagged" many of your patients for evac to us. I was assigned to the Radioisotope Clinic, and also worked (part-time) in the Army MARS station. After the 106th adn 249th were deactivated in 70 and 71, we were "the" hospital in Japan. We got everything - amputees, belly wounds, chest wounds, neuro-surg, and the Far East Burn Center became part of our facility as well. I have many memories of my assignment there, good and bad. I would like to hear from anyone who was stationed there, mad-evaced there, or who knows something about what we did, saw, and cared for. Please e-mail me at: dgrant@shopstop.net.
Thank you.

I was an army medic assigned to the 563rd medical clearing company who supported the 2nd Surgical Hospital. I was there from February 1968 until both units moved north to Phu Bai and set up near the air strip. (I left country in February 1969). If I remember correctly we became a part of the 85 Evac.
While at Chu Lai, I worked with a female nurse who's name was Lt Mueller or Muehler(not sure of spelling). Her husband was also a nurse. She specifically requested that I work with her after another medic failed to clamp a chest tube before moving a patient to x-ray. I need to contact her and other medics who served with those units at that time. There was also a nurse who's first name was Kay from North Carolina. She an I had a mutual friend by the last name of McClain who was first assigned to hospital, then med evac. Bob Dieffenbach worked with me at one point before going to med evac where he lost his life. Please contact me. The VA says they cant locate my personnel file as I have filed a PTSD claim. Thanks...I need your help just like they needed our help.

I would like to express my concerns for some of the things that I have read in this site. I am a proud member of the United States Air Force and it makes me sick to know that people in my government have taken such a laid-back approach to women that gave their lives for this country. I can not believe that there is a resistance to rembering this proud, brave, women. It hits me hard to think, that myself as a woman, could also be forgotten so easily during and after a war, especially if I gave my life, like I have sworn to and that I will do if the need arises. Please continue this fight for the rememberance of these truly honored women. Thank you and God bless.

I saw the beautiful Nancy Quirk, but always from a distance, while serving as a medic at 3rd Surg, '70 to 71'.
Now I ask myself the question--where is, what is--the real world?--here?--or there? As a songwriter, I have written a song or two--trying to capture this beautiful butterfly--this country, this experience--called da nam. Yes, sometimes it's a caterpillar as definitely are the communists. But, how I love the people and the culture. They were a great help to us working for us. One in particular, never knew her name, but wanted to marry her--lost contact 30 years ago. Where are you, Miss Spring, secretary of Med. Supply, most beautiful lady who ever lived?

A soldier's story of the Gulf War--with a twist: The author, who was taken prisoner by the Iraqis, is a woman, wife, and mother, as well as a flight surgeon in the army. Alternating accounts of her army life at home and in Saudi Arabia, Cornum, a major, describes the events that led to her capture in the Iraqi desert (Iraqis shot down the helicopter flying her to the rescue of a downed pilot); her subsequent imprisonment; and her unexpected release and joyous homecoming. With a Ph.D. in biochemistry from Cornell, Cornum joined the army because she wanted to go to a military medical school rather than a civilian one. She'd never had much school spirit, ``but all of a sudden in the army, I found the spirit and I loved it.'' She learned to fly helicopters, completed a grueling paratrooper course, and rose to become head of a research division at Fort Rucker. The Iraqi soldiers who found her badly wounded--Cornum suffered from a bullet wound, two broken arms, and dislocated knees--treated her harshly: She was interrogated often, moved from place to place blindfolded, and received only rudimentary care. Her injuries finally were treated properly in Baghdad, where, unaware that the war was over, she prepared herself for a lengthy imprisonment. Reunited with friends and family, Cornum found herself a celebrity back home. Here, she relates her harrowing experience with quiet courage, offering perceptive insights into army life, the role of women in combat--which she favors--and the support that comes from what she calls ``unit bonding.'' A fast-paced story as much about war and one remarkable woman as about the tenacity of the human spirit.

I wrote a letter to al the nurses and medics the other day about what happens after we do find eachother. For a few weeks you keepin touch but then something happens and the communication's get shorter and fewer and stop. How sad this is, when I joined the Army I wanted to drive heavy equipment but I became a medic??? Since I've been home I've had contact with about 5 or 6 people we tried to sift through times places and happennings. To forget the people that we were with in another part of this insnity trip we've been on ,it seems forever. We have a new life but we let a family willing to die for eachother in needed. Who can remember 30 years ago? 30 days? 30 minutes? What I'm trying to say is don'tstop keeping in touch with these people spometimes that is the only touch with"Reality", they have. Plus it's like getting that letter from home you waitted for but never let show the hurt when it didn't come. We were workers of miricles thanks to the higher power or what ever you did or didn't believe in. Would it be so bad to write once in awhile and say hows it going with you? Iknow alot of people including myself that would stop dragging my chin on the floor. Believe me it hurts and its hard to grow a beard there. Pease lets noe forget the other family we had the other people we were prour to call 'friend". I'll get off the soap box and go back and watch my cicculation stop at my feet, till then this is the original"CHICKEN MAN", saying Puck,Puck Puck Paugh! Thanks For Being You, Pat(THE MANIAC MEDIC) Doty

I was a medic for 2 tours one in Chu Lai 67-68 and Quin Nhon 69-70. One thing I've learned is this war will never leave us and now we have a second life to live. I've lived most of mine in and out of the V.A. system.I was one of the first to get P.T.S.D. hung on me and wonder what will tey think up next to make it look like their helpping us? I've been married for 31 years on the 23rd of May to a beautiful woman I've known since we were 14 years old.he has Alzheimersdisease now and I lost a 21 year old son in Oct. of last year.War is hell? Life is hell. I took care of my wife for almost 7 years and my mind was still in nam and with her now with my son Rick. No war could ever cause the pain that living has caused me. Each night I wonder why I came home? Why did life turn into more hell than war has done to me and my family. Iknow I'm not alone and I pray for all of us that are fighting the war of life. God bless us all.SEE YA!

This time around I have a multi purpose posting…
First, I would like to thank a few people for helping me on my quest to find the Doctor that took the photos of me at the 67th Evac in Qui Nhon (1FEB71). Those people are:
1. Marilyn Knapp Litt for the site and a place to communicate and heal.
2. Pat Rambo: 67th Evac.
3. Robert “Bob” Trover: 67th Evac.
4. Kim Middleton: 67th Evac.
5. Willa: 67th Evac.
6. Colleen (Hamann) Helmstetter: 67th Evac.
7. Diana Poole: 67th Evac.
Secondly, I would like to say something directly to a couple of Doctors who may read this (though I doubt you’d come here, it’s so beneath you). Dr. Charles Peck… where are you? We want to talk to you, but there are too many of you to write them all.
Dr. Bruce L. Bolasny and Dr. Gary J. Delorit, I have written to you asking for information. A simple yes or no will suffice… but don’t blow me off. If you didn’t start this job, you’re excused; but if you did, the jobs not done yet.
Thirdly, for everyone that reads this, PTSD will not go away just by the passage of time alone! You have to talk! You should talk to people that have experienced the same tragedies and horrors that you’ve faced yourself (although not essential, it has the greatest healing effect) and you need to start now! We are all getting older and I’m not worried about forgetting the horrors (that won’t happen) but the lesson we learned in Vietnam shouldn’t be forgotten… “Life’s Short.” As I have said to some of you, “you helped heal me and I’m more than willing to return the favor.”
Take care my brothers and sisters,

I was wounded at BenHet and redlined to Pleiku with loss of part of lower jaw, loss of right eye and a chink out of left bicep. I was on a respirator and at one time I was told while at WRAMC I had a B/P of 20. A few nights or so we took incoming at the hospital area, both rockets and mortars I am told. Well during this a nurse came out with flak jacket, helmet flashlight and I think a 45 on her hip. Me and and the guy next to me could not be put under the bed, though she tried but she covered us with something,of what I cant recall. Anywho, I dont know who she was but here is another thankyou to all of you especially her. Good job Thank you and welcome home! While at the dedication of the nurese statue in DC I asked for those of the 71st but found few. I hope this reaches her somehow. I also recall a very special nurse at WRAMC who started there on ward 36 in June of 69 Her name was Sue Glackin, any info on her would also be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I arrived in Chu Lai on 20 December 1968. I was with the 74th Medical Battalion. Then they deactivated, and I went to the 312th Evac. Hosp. on 22 April 1968. I was the Supply Sergeant. Then the 91st Evac. Hosp. came up from Tuy Hoa on 16 July 1969, and I left 14 December 1969. I was there when 1st Lt. Sharon Ann "Missy" Lane was killed on the morning of 8 June 1969. She worked in the Vietnamese Ward, Ward 4. I was in the same hutch as Douglas Tyler, who worked in Ward 4. The day before Sharon went to work, we were sitting in front of my hutch, across from the messhall. Sharon came by, stopped, and had a half a glass of beer with us. That evening, I cooked a very large can of raviolis, and took some up to ward 4. Sharon and some of the others ate some as well. The next morning when the rocket hit between Ward A and B, I headed for the bunker. It seemed like seconds after the rocket hit, someone said Ward 4 was hit. We rushed up there, and they had already removed her body. Being the Supply Sergeant, I inventoried Sharon's belongings. A couple of years ago I stumbled upon the book, "Hostile Fire The Life & Death of First Lieutenant Sharon Lane" It brought about a lot of memories, both good and bad, happy and sad. I've been to The Wall twice. I've cried there twice when I touched her name, and the names of other friends that gave their lives in Vietnam. While working in the 312th/91st, I did my job, and never really thought of the fact that the nurses in Vietnam were ALL volunteers. I've come to greatly appreciate each and every woman that ever served in Vietnam, whether they be military or civilian. It took a lot of courage and dedication to go to Vietnam and do the job they went there to do. I've always thought that the women that went to Vietnam, especially the nurses, were under apreciated and I was very happy when they dedicated the statue of the nurses in Washington, D.C. I watched the dedication on TV. I would love to have been there. Thank you one and all.

Really great site. Keep up the great work !!! It really does give the women who were "in country" the recognition they so much deserve. Their jobs were as tough as the actual combat soldiers that were there also. I have added a link on my site to your page( the section on my dedication to all of us who were there) to support all the women who were there with us side by side.
I was in country from 1968-1970 in the 101st Airborne attached to the 173rd. Air Cav.

I really found the information that you have listed in this website very interesting and I think that you put it together really well. I never really realized how many women there were in the Vietnam War that were not just nurses. I want to become a nurse or a lawyer or a police officer. The only reason that I am afraid to become a police officer is that I am not ready to die at least not yet. But anyways I really found that website very interesting. I hope you send me a email back.

Feb 1966 I was hospitalized in Mercy Hospital, Buffalo,NY for surgery. As it was a teaching hospital, I was attended to by nurse trainee/students. One of the nurse trainees told me that when she graduated in June 66 she was going into the Army. I went into the Army in June 1966 and ended up in Vietnam with the 4th Inftry DIVARTY (B Btry 6/29Arty) as a FO. I was wounded on February 26th 1968 in Dak To and evac'd to the 71st EVAC in Pieku. After my surgery, when I awoke in bed, there was this Angel from Mt Mercy Academy at my side. Due to my condition, I could not function. For the first 3 or 4 days she was my Guardian Angel. She wrote my letters home, got me a tape recorder (battery operated) and helped me tape my voice to help my family know for sure that I was alright since she had written my letters for me. I was sent to Japan after the 2nd mortar attacks in as many nights. I was pulled off of the ward and shipped out in hours and never saw her again. From Camp Zama,Japan I was sent back to the real world. I never got to say goodbye and thank her for her strength (during the mortar attacks, she pulled me under the bed and covered me with a mattress) patience (I probably was not a good patient,I don't imagine) and special care (she helped me with the doctors records when the admin section area got hit with the mortars). All I would like to do is say " THANK YOU!" She has never been far from my thoughts. She made my stay at the 71st most bearable. I have tried, unsuccessflly, over the years to find her and to thank her. If anyone knows this exceptional lady, please let me know. Dave Nixon

I was with C Co 2/3 Inf, 199th Light Infantry Brigade, Vietnam in 1968. I was wounded in the early morning hours of 5 Dec 1968 and dusted off to the 3rd Field Hospital in Saigon. I was at the 3rd Field for 2 days and then evacuated to Japan. While at the 3rd Field I received fabulous care from a young Nurse in the Post Op or Intensive Care unit. I had tripped of a booby trapped grenade and my legs, left arm, and both hands had been injured. My hands were bandaged and I couldn/t feed myself. The young Nurse fed me and took exceptional care of me. I was 19 years old and looking a several months in the hospital and was feeling really down. She made me feel special and lifted my spirits. I don't know her name but while I was in her unit she was being interviewed by a reporter for the Army Times or the Stars and Stripes I can't remember which. The reporter wanted to take a picture of her caring for a patient and she chose me to be in the picture. If anyone remembers this please send me an e-mail. I would like to thank her and get a copy of the picture if she has one. I also got great care in Japan (I was there for 9 days) and at Fort Sill, Oklahoma (5 Months). Thank you all for helping to put so many lives back together. P.S. I've been married to a Nurse for 32 years.

I was looking over the emails and wanting to post something myself. I am a Ph'd stude4nt at the University of Hawaii. I am currently doing research and plan to do a documentary on "Operation Babylift." I have been in touch with LeAnn Thieman and email others regarding the subject. What I hope to achieve is talking with some military people who were involved with this operation and any survivors of the plane crash.
I thank any all information referencing my project.

I saw your site, I was with C. Co. 75th Support Bn. and our Graves Registration point was right next to helo pad, which I saw in your pictures, the R&E, brought back many memories, but, when I was there from 1969-1970, it was'nt that quite. I also was with the 148th Graves Registration in Da Nang, that took over after the Army Mortuary re-located all operations to Saigon, I was was at the 95th Evac many many times, I remember, mother, Col. I offer a hearfelt thanks to all of the women who served in Viet Nam and I especially want to honor the memory of those who died (military and civilian).
I joined the U.S. Air Force in 1975, catching only the tail end of what is known as the Viet Nam era, but I met numerous airmen who had served in Viet Nam. My heart has always held a special place for these faithful soldiers. Knowing them has given me a tremendous appreciation for all of the people from all services who served in Viet Nam.
I give all of you my heart felt thanks. God bless each and every one of you. I especially want to thank all of the women who served over there and withstood the myriad dangers and fears, just as the men did. You ladies are special people and I salute you!!

Surely want to salute you and say hello while I am visiting your site. What a forgotten group of 'Angels' the women of Viet Nam are, as well as the women in the Military everywhere. I am a friend of John Murdock's, and want to thank you so much for this site that gives so much information that is not known to many people. GOD has blessed America in the women that so faithfully served and sacrificed so very much for so little, and not making light of what men sacrificed, but women have so much more heartache involved with serving in the military. It takes a lot of heart, of love, of dedication, of sacrificing, and of giving up of the desires that live in all women. Takes a special 'lady' to serve in the Military. Thanks....Love and prayers, Martha

I wrote back on the 27th of feb. and I heard from some oldtime medics like me. I've got back in contact with some of my angels in combat boots again but it is hard to start to write back and forth because what we did was like being on a special mission with each and every person that got flown in. I had a band when I was with the 67th evac in Quin Nhon and played all the clubs. I will say this after we were through working for who knows how long, it was time to "ROCK AND ROLL". Just to be able to get ready for the next day and all that would need to be done that day. If we didn't do that we wouldn't be able to take on the next group of young wounded men who needed us and the thing we did best! Save lives. Thanks to all the women and men in the medical field who helped me - the medics (especially our field medic Fritz Daub who patched me up on the ground until the chopper got there), the medical corpspersons, the nurses, the doctors, the physical therapist. Without you I might not have fully recovered to lead a semi-productive life.
I had had my 23d birthday in the field in February and was with the C Co, 2d Bn, 3d Inf (The Old Guard),199th Light Infantry Brigade in Nam. I was wounded by a grenade on or about 18 or 19 April 1967 and med-evaced to a hospital at Tan Son Nhut Air Base and then to the 106th GH in Japan. I was discharged from Irwin Army Hospital at Fort Riley, KS and returned to duty in September 1967. I think my physical therapist at Irwin AH was a Major Strong. I don't know the names of all the others.
I was blessed that you were there. God bless you. Glad we made it back.

I've found this site to be very interestin. Made two trips to, or through, 95th Evac. in Da Nang in 1968. As good as an experience of that nature gets. The last trip through, took me on to the USS Sanctuary, Clark AF Hospital and eventually to Walter Reed. To all the military nurses (yeah, you Navy Corpsmen, too), my heartfelt thanks for the care and caring! Very good web site. I was stationed as a doc with the 1/82 artillery in Chu Lai Oct 69-April 70. We had the swimming pool.
My second six months, April to Oct 70, were at the 18th Surg, Quang Tri. I recognized a nurse named Mary in one of your pictures. I believe I replaced a doc who was a pediatrician at the 18th Surg that Mary went to visit when he left the 18th Surg and went to a field assignment.
Great pictures with good comments.

I as in-country when I read about Sharon A. Lane and I had just a couple weeks to go before I was to go home. That was the first time I cried since I was a young boy. I looked upon the nurses over there as sisters. I felt like I lost a sister that day when I learned that Sharon Lane was killed even though I did'nt even know her. I still feel that same way today. I hope that the Lord Jesus will let me meet her when I finally get to go to heaven. I wish to thank all the nurses that served in viet-nam, and I do'nt want to leave out all the other women that were in viet-nam with us. I was with the army engineers-68-70. I pray that The LORD bless and keep each and every one the nurses and other women that served in Viet-nam. I pray the same for their families too. Thank you for giving me the chance to finally say these words which I needed to say.

WHAT: There will be an open rendezvous of Vietnam Veterans held in Mobile, Alabama this summer. Open means everyone, Campers, RVers, bikers, EVERYONE.
WHERE: Chicasabogue Park (Campground) off I-65 (actually Saraland, Alabama)
WHEN: Beginning, Thursday, July 26th 2001 thru Sunday, July 29th.
WHY: To bring ALL men & women who served in-country, and those we refer to as era veterans together for the purpose of strengthening the brotherhood, renewing old friendships, etc.
Planned Events: Tours to Battleship Park. Site of the Alabama Vietnam Veterans Memorial, home of the battleship Alabama, Aircraft display including Calamity Jane - B-52 that flew numerous missions over the Nam. Flyover by the Blue Angels (Pensacola is about an hours drive away). Skydiving demo by the Golden Knights - US Army parachute team.
Excursions: "The Boats" at Biloxi - the casinos are less than an hours drive.
Notables: we have been assured that one of the most decorated soldiers of the Vietnam War will be on hand (Medal of Honor recipient), and one of our most well known Prisoners-of-War. Reps from VFW, American Legion, DAV, Vietnam Vets of America, Amvets, etc, etc.
The evenings are unplanned, small camp fires, good food, drink, and kicked back story telling. Gonna be a blast for the past, you gotta be there.
For this to be a success we need you to forward this announcement to as many folks as possible.
The new website is up and running (still under construction) click on this link to check it out: Vietnam Veterans Rendezvous 2001
AND, we need to have you respond ASAP if planning to attend. There are quite a few support activities that need staffing, and we need your help. We expect approx. 700 - 1000 folks to attend. And if one brother is "helped" during the rendezvous we'll consider it a success.

I had a dear friend who decided in 1970 that she needed to go to Viet Nam to "see for herself what the whole thing was about". In those years, I felt that I knew everything I needed to know, and was hardcore against any involvement. I only got to see her once after she returned, and we did not discuss much about her experience as a "Donut Dollie", but I could tell that it had changed her. Now as I approach retirement after 25 years in the US Air Force, I have a different perspective on things. I was glad to find this website and read about people's experiences. I would appreciate anyone who may have information on the whereabouts of Karen Reeder giving me a heads-up, or giving her my e-mail.

I read the novel "Home Before Morning," by Lynda Van Devanter. I was so moved that I decided to use it as my piece in the category of prose for the Speech team at my school. I must say thank you to all of those, especially the nurses, whose story I would not have understood without reading this book, for doing what you did in Vietnam.

A beautiful tribute to those brave and wonderful young women
who died in Viet Nam. Thank you for introducing them to those of us who didn't have the honor and privilege of knowing them before.

I was injured at Tan An in 1969 and my dustoff stopped at
Ben Luc and 3rd Field in Saigon before dropping me at 24th
in Long Binh. Until reading another page tonight I thought
it was the 23rd! I got very good care from the doctors,
nurses, medics and corpsman along the way. From Long Binh to
a USAF Medevac unit in Bien Hoa, another at Tan Son Nhut,
another at Tachikawa, and still another at Yokota, finally
ending up at NAVHOSP in Yokosuka. Returned in-country after
a few weeks in Japan. Thanks to all that put their healing
hands on me and a big thank you to Dustoff!

If it had not been for Vietnam, I would not be here today. You see I was conceived there, sometime in October of 1969 (from my calculations). My mother was a nurse and my father a soldier, both around 24 or 25 years old. I was born on July 13th, 1970 in Walter Reed Hospital in Washington D.C. I would like to tell my mother how proud I am of her for all the brave things she did. The bravest one being having the courage to let me go. I was adopted by wonderful people who have given me a great life. I do not know my mother, but I would like to meet her and be her friend. I would like my children to meet this brave person and see themselves in her eyes. If anyone has any information about or my know my mother, please contact me. Thank you, Jennifer email mayodog@hotmail.com

I went through Navy Hospital Corps School in early 68, at Great Lakes. My Nurse Instructor was LCDR Kate Swanson. The training she provided allowed me to do my duty in Vietnam to the best of my ability, thereby saving numerous American lives. I am deeply grateful for the time and effort she availed to make us the best at what we did. Any contact information would be deeply appreciated and gratefully accepted at the above address.

I was with the 903rd Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron in 1968-69. Served at Khe Sanh, Da Nang, Dong Ha, Hue Phu Bai, Chu Lai, Phu Cat, Pleiku, Saigon, Qui Nhon, Cam Ranh Bay, and several other places setting up Casualty Staging Facilities and flights. Met afew nurses but never had the time to stop and get acquainted. We sent hundreds of wounded via air evac to the nurses who took great care and personal interest in their recovery. Always felt we could have done better getting them to you but we did our best. Still wonder what happened to some of the guys. Best of L
