About
Why does our synagogue exist? To celebrate the holy, to grow prideful, fluent participants in Jewish life, and to lend our willing hearts and hands to strengthening the share of God, Torah, and Israel in today’s world. Why do we as individual exist? This is a surpassing question – only answerable in the choices and commitments we make throughout the course of our lifetime. Our aspiration is that some meaningful portion of your purpose-driven life may be fulfilled through connection, engagement, and immersion in the life of our synagogue. As with most synagogues, energies collect around learning, celebrating, helping, and sharing. What makes our approach unique, we feel, is the kind of Judaism (morally powerful, accepting, intellectually alive) we celebrate, and the kind of Jews (curious, passionate, committed) you’ll find here.

Founded in 1917, Congregation Kehillath Israel (KI) is currently under the leadership of Rabbi William G. Hamilton. The synagogue services are fully egalitarian. The Sabbath experience offers many learning opportunities, such as Scholar-in-Residence programs and Lunch-and-Learn discussions after Kiddush, as well as Torah study in the Beit Midrash between Mincha and Maariv and afternoon Talmud study. KI also offers children's Shabbat services according to age group, including preschool services. Other activities include a Hebrew school, nursery school, sisterhood meetings, a Young Leadership division, and cultural activities. KI also participates in several community service programs such as Family Table, and serves the needs of the larger community through programs such as Ma'asim Tovim, which supports worthwhile organizations in various fields.- Date center founded:
