AACL DELEGATION TO THE AMERICAN CONGRESS

 – The Serbian association as a precondition before the final agreement is an attempt to impose Serbia’s control over Kosova and its disappearance as a state.

From Agim Aliçkaj

An AACL delegation, led by national legends Joe DioGuardi and Shirley Cloyes DioGuardi stayed last week in Washington to lobby for Kosova and the national cause.

The meeting with Congressman Jerry Nadler, ranking member of the Judiciary Committee was cordial and meaningful. Special attention was paid to the violation of the rights of the Albanian people in south Serbia (Presheva Valley and Sanxhak) by dictatorial chauvinist Serbia and the possibility of holding a hearing in Congress dedicated to this problem.

In Senator Chris Van Hollen’s office, conversation with advisers Francesca Eremeeva and Jonathan Nellis.

Annual meeting of the FMC- in Washington, where current Senators and Congressmen meet with former Congressmen and exchange opinions on the development and strengthening of democracy and the American state as well as American foreign policy. There was a lot of advice, finding a common ground, civility and respect, leadership, and building democracy around the world.

Brief conversations with Democratic and Republican senators and congressmen, who received the “Statesmanship Award”, Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-AK), Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE) and Rep. Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA).

At the Capitol Hill Club, cordial meeting with Congressmen Dan Bishop (R-NC) and Pete Stauber (R-MN).

In all the meetings, the achievements and successes of Kosova in the development and building of the state, democracy, legality and respect for human rights were highly appreciated. It was concluded that Kosova has met all the conditions for membership in the CoE. The Ohrid Agreement, proposed by President Macron and Chancellor Scholz, negotiated with the participation of both parties, represents the last compromise made by Kosova for the sake of peace in Europe.

Pressure on Kosova by Western mediators and diplomats for additional concessions to satisfy Serbian hegemonic appetites is unfair and only exacerbates the problem. Serbian association as a precondition before the final agreement and recognition of Kosova by Serbia, is an attempt to impose Serbia’s control over Kosova and in the longer term its disappearance as a state. Serbia, which has not signed and openly refuses to implement the Agreement, should be put under diplomatic and economic pressure.

The Albanian-American Civic League strongly supports the positions and constructive actions of the Kurti government in cooperation with President Vjosa Osmani and Speaker Glauk Konjufca towards the international community and opposition to Serbian aggression, which is openly endangering peace and security in the Balkans and Europe.
