AARC Attends Reception in Recognition of Congressman Gregory Meeks

The Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee reaffirms his commitment to uphold in Congress the legacy of longtime Albanian-American champion Eliot Engel

The Albanian American Relations Council was honored to attend a cocktail reception in Washington, D.C. in recognition of Congressman Gregory Meeks, Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee—one of the most influential positions shaping U.S. foreign policy.

A statement by AARC informs that the Council was represented by President Martin Vulaj, Board Member and publisher of Illyria Vehbi Bajrami, and supporter Elio Ahmetaj. During the evening, we had the opportunity to personally thank Congressman Meeks for his leadership in helping prepare and send the letter to Secretary Marco Rubio, urging the continued presence of U.S. troops in Kosovo and underscoring the strategic importance of that commitment.

We also expressed our deep appreciation for his role in supporting House efforts to expose and condemn the systemic discrimination of ethnic Albanians in the Presevo (Presheva) Valley.

In a powerful and reassuring moment, Congressman Meeks reaffirmed his commitment, invoking the legacy of longtime Albanian-American champion Eliot Engel, stating: “Eliot is no longer here. I am here for you guys!”

AARC looks forward to a follow-up meeting with Congressman Meeks to develop concrete strategies for strengthening Congressional support on critical Albanian issues across the region.

We also had the pleasure of meeting Congressman Clyburn, one of the longest-serving members of the House of Representatives, where we discussed the potential of building support within the Congressional Black Caucus—a coalition of 60 Members of Congress in the House and Senate.

AARC remains committed to advancing the interests of Albanians through strong partnerships and continued engagement at the highest levels of U.S. government.
