Man traveling back from the United States with a gun, caught in Tirana’s Airport

TIRANA

A man was arrested today at Tirana’s international airport, in Albania, as he tried to enter the country with a handgun and significant munition in his baggage.

The 51-year-old was caught by the Border Police, which has recently increased its vigilance to clamp down on the traffic of illegal objects. They found 125 bullets in his possession, the Albanian Telegraphic Agency reports.

The authorities have revealed only his initials (R. H.) and have said that he had flown in from the United States. How he has evaded the normally strict control at the American point of exit is mystifying.

He is a resident of Tirana and will be tried here on the counts of “Trafficking illegal weapons and munition” and “Illegal Gun Possession”. (Illyria)
